POLO TRAINING FOUNDATION 1997
Intercollegiate / INTERSCHOLASTIC AWARD WINNERS

Polo training Foundation President, Jesse Upchurch presented the 1997 PTF awards for male and female Intercollegiate Pledge and Interscholastic Player of the year at the Delegates Dinner on Friday, September 2, 1997 at the board Acres Polo Club in Norman, OK. The award is presented to the participants in the Intercollegiate / Interscholastic program who demonstrate skills in leadership, sportsmanship, horsemanship and playing ability. The 1997 recipients were:
Male Intercollegiate Player of the year - Chris Hitchcock, University of Virginia
Female Intercollegiate Player of the Year - Ilia Christy, Stanford University
Interscholastic Player of the Year - Travis Scales, Shallowbrook Equestrian Center
TRAVIS SCALES. Virtually grew up at the Shallowbrook
Equestrian and Polo Center, where he learned basic horsemanship skills and developed his
polo ability. Currently he carries a one goal outdoor and 3 goal arena handicap.
Travis attended the Stafford Middle School and Rockville High School. His education
was in vocational agriculture where he received several awards.
At the Interscholastics, Travis was elected to the All American Interscholastic
team three times. His growth and development into an outstanding player who
maintained an aura of humility about him caused Travis to receive more nominations for
this award than any previous nominee. Opposing coaches, tournament management as
well as his own coach Hal Vita felt that Travis' outstanding attitude at
the Interscholastic Tournament his senior year earned him the PTF Interscholastic Player
of the Year Award.
Travis plans on attending the University of Connecticut this fall and hopes to add
an Intercollegiate Championship to his resume.
